Seminole County is actively working towards reducing potable water consumption in the Northwest Service Area.
This effort will be achieved through conservation measures which include providing reclaimed water (instead of potable water) for irrigating lawns in neighborhoods with high water use in the Northwest Service Area. There are five planned phases in the Residential Reclaimed Retrofit Reclaimed Expansion Program, as shown in the attached map.
Phase 1 of the Residential Reclaimed Retrofit Program constructed reclaimed water pipes to residents of Bristol Park, Chestnut Hill, East Camden, Heathrow Woods, and Magnolia Plantation. Phase 1 was placed into service in February 2008.
Phase 2 of the Residential Reclaimed Retrofit Program constructed reclaimed water pipes to residents of Alaqua Lakes. Phase 2 was placed into service in September 2010.
Taken together, Phases 1 and 2 of the Residential Reclaimed Retrofit Program are saving the County approximately 1,000,000 gallons of potable water per day, enough to fill 67 swimming pools a day. Phase 3 of the Residential Reclaimed Retrofit Program constructed reclaimed water pipes to residents of Breckenridge Heights, Lakeside, Stonebridge, Waters Edge, Wembley Park, Carisbrooke and Wyntree. Phase 3 was placed into service in January 2015.
Special care will be taken in the design and construction process to minimize impacts to trees, driveways, mailboxes and other structures within the limits of construction. Significance is also given to minimize the inconvenience of residents.
The County views its reclaimed water as a valuable resource, to be shared with its residents to the maximum extent possible, based on principles of financial prudence and operational sustainability.
