The Seminole County Water Division pumps, treats, and delivers drinking water to almost 46,200 residential and commercial accounts through 650 miles of water mains in unincorporated Seminole County. The five water treatment plants can produce a maximum rated capacity of nearly 36 million gallons of water per day. You may occasionally see a Seminole County employee flushing a fire hydrant.  This is a common practice in the water industry; hydrant flushing is necessary to test the hydrants to make sure adequate flow and pressure are available. Flushing is also performed to remove sediment from the pipes to maintain water clarity and quality in the distribution system.  Providing our customers with safe, high-quality drinking water is our highest priority. Water Plant Operators and Compliance Officers collect and test about 3,200 in-line and distributed water samples for a variety of compliance metrics each year.  Other health and safety features of the water system include the addition of a sanitizer for disinfection purposes, ozone treatment (at three facilities), and maintaining 3,700 fire hydrants.
