Seminole County provides two (2) different types of evacuation shelters – general population and medically enhanced (special needs). A “pet-friendly” designation is provided to specific shelters which are equipped to allow animals at the facility.
General Population shelters provide basic food services and 21 square feet of space/per individual. Cots are not provided at general population shelters (before and during hurricanes). Dependent on availability, all efforts are made to provide cots post-disaster.
Medically Enhanced (Special Needs) shelters are intended for individuals who may have a medical condition requiring enhanced services, such as electricity for medical devices, medical cots, and monitoring from medical staff. These shelters provide basic food services, trained medical staff, medical cots and certain medical supplies. While medical staff are present, caregivers are requested to accompany evacuees to these shelters.
Please Note:
Residents with special needs that may need sheltering assistance should register with Seminole County Emergency Management at 407-665-5102 or complete the Seminole County Special Needs Registration Form.
Most emergency shelters do not allow pets. If you are bringing pets, please make sure the shelter accepts them.
All shelters will not open. It is important to check during a disaster to know your nearest open shelter.
