Cremation Assistance

Seminole County Community Health provides cremations for indigent individuals who die within Seminole County borders. Assistance may also be provided for those who die and are unclaimed and/or are unknown individuals. The Indigent Cremation program does not provide for a funeral, memorial viewing, visitation, or any other services.

Funeral Home Rotation

Our contracted funeral homes rotate each month, with one serving as the primary provider. Families may still choose any of the contracted funeral homes if they have a preference.

Qualifications for the program include

  • The decedent must have died in Seminole County
  • The decedent must not have any form of life insurance.
  • The decedent must not own property.
  • The household income of the decedent must not exceed 100% of the federal poverty guidelines (see 2025 Federal Poverty Guidelines table below).

Documentation requirements

  • Photo ID of decedent
  • Photo ID of relative or legally authorized representative
  • Bank statement(s) 1 month prior to death for all members of the decedent’s household
  • Income verification 1 month prior to death for all members of the decedent’s household

Note: For households with more than 8 persons, add $5,500 for each additional person

The applicant must be one of the following

  • A person granted legal authority (such as through a durable power of attorney, health care surrogate designation, etc.)
  • If no such written authorization exists, the legal next of kin has priority in the following order
    1. Surviving spouse
    2. Adult child
    3. Parent
    4. Adult sibling
    5. Adult grandchild
    6. Grandparent
    7. Any person in the next degree of kinship

Process

  • Return completed application and all required documentation to Seminole County Community Health via email communityhealth@seminolecountyfl.gov or fax 407-665-2358.
  • Your application will be reviewed, and you will be notified regarding your eligibility. For any questions feel free to contact us by email or phone 407-665-2304.
  • Staff will work with the contracted funeral home provider.
