Residential Collection Guidelines

All materials must be curbside by 6 a.m.

An unlimited amount of household garbage may be placed curbside for collection in garbage cans or bags. Cans must be outdoor cans that have lids and handles, and must not exceed 50 gallons in size or 50 pounds in weight.

Residents must provide their own garbage cans. Solid Waste Management does not distribute cans (recycling bins are provided). Indoor trash cans may be mistaken for trash and will not be replaced.

Large items like furniture or appliances can be picked up upon request. Please complete a Bulk Item Pickup Request Form.

Recycling bins are provided by Seminole County. Need a recycling bin? Click here for the Recycling Bin Request Form.

General Recycling Guidelines:

  • Do not bag your recyclables in plastic bags. Place loose into collection bins.
  • All recyclables, including flattened cardboard, must fit inside recycling bin. If it does not fit, bring it to the Central Transfer Station or Seminole County Landfill.
  • Rinse out recyclables.

Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Facility

RecycleShoe

Seminole County residents may drop-off gently worn shoes (sneakers preferred) at the Central Transfer Station to be collected by Recycle Sneaker Project.

Recycle Sneaker Project delivers shoes to developing countries, preventing soil-transmitting infections onto bare feet and keeping shoes out of the landfill. Fifty cents for every pound of shoes recycled is returned to Seminole County Solid Waste, offsetting operating costs for residents.

Residential Cooking Oil

Got leftover cooking oil from your delicious feast? Don't toss it or dump it down the drain - recycle it instead! Collect your used cooking oil in a jar or bottle and drop it off in the designated container at the Central Transfer Station in Longwood.

Pouring oil down the drain can clog your pipes, and throwing it out can damage trucks and equipment and disrupt the decomposition process at the Landfill. Plus, recycled cooking oil can be made into other useful products, such as biodiesel fuel.

Limit 10 gallons per visit.

Reuse Shop (Central Transfer Station)

The Solid Waste Management Division makes every effort to provide for pollution prevention. The Reuse Shop has a variety of items for Seminole County residents to peruse and take home, up to 20 items per day.

Items from the shop are recovered from the Hazardous Waste streams, as dropped-off by residents, and determined to be “as new” or reusable condition. Items vary from day to day.

Residents need to fill out a liability waiver, accepting items “as is”.

Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but may be closed if a technician is not on site. Call ahead to ensure availability at 407-665-2250.

Sharps

Do NOT dispose of sharps (needles, syringes, and lancets) in your regular curbside bins. Please pick up a free sharps disposal container and drop off full containers at one of the authorized collection sites listed below.

Fill containers with needles, syringes and lancets only and keep them clean and free from other biomedical waste.
